P1 splitter: from 1 to 3 active P1 port connections
The 'P1 port splitter' is a stand-alone module that continuously reads the digital meter and then transmits this data without any adjustment to the 3 active P1 port outputs. On these 3 ports, coupled P1 applications can request P1 readings independently and each at its own pace. Each output has a 5 volt power supply (this comes from the smart meter or from the usb micro jack).
For older Dutch meters (Type 2 or3 ) with a P1 port at 9600 baud, the readout speed is automatically increased to 115200 baud. With these meters an external USB power supply is needed anyway and depending on the load on the output of the splitter an external USB power supply is needed for version 4/5 smart meters.
Comments:
- Pre-activate the Belgian digital meters to work: via this link
If the digital meter screen shows a triangle above "GP" (GP is in laser marking below the screen) then ports P1 and S1 are active.
- Meaning of the LED:
-
- The green LED indicates that there is voltage on the splitter. Is it off that the splitter will not function. Blinking is also an indication that there are problems with the power supply.
- For each output, the blue LEDs above the black terminal blocks indicate that data is being offered to the consuming device.
Operation
The splitter contains a microprocessor. This reads and buffers all p1 messages. As soon as a descending device wants to receive a message, the message is passed from the buffer. If the descending device wants a message continuously, it will do so at the speed of the smart meter (1s for new and 10s for old meters). The outputs amplify the signal more than 10x, have a power supply and always communicate at 115,200 b/s. The splitter will automatically detect old or new smart meter and adjust accordingly.
